Rise early to witness the unfolding of the sacred Thongdrel—a massive holy Thangka displayed only during the festival, believed to bless all who behold it before dawn. Afterwards, drive to the Tiger’s Nest base and begin your rewarding hike up to the legendary Taktsang Monastery. The two-hour ascent to the viewpoint café offers awe-inspiring vistas of the cliff-hanging monastery, where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have arrived on the back of a flying tigress in the 8th century. After exploring and descending, visit the historic Drukgyal Dzong and a traditional farmhouse to observe authentic Bhutanese village life.
